Together with owners full of ideas, we redesigned this dispensary to support a renewed way of welcoming patients!
The objective of Mrs and Mr Deconinck was twofold: to expand their pharmacy and to create a succession of themed areas, offering new services to their patients.
They aspired to a layout that moves away from the sometimes cold image of the pharmaceutical sector, towards a more “at-home” feeling: a reassuring, friendly and warm atmosphere.
Thanks to the construction of a very modern extension, built on the former parking area, the pharmacy was able to expand. The parking itself was relocated to the adjacent plot next to the pharmacy.

Mrs and Mr Pitocco Deconinck, owner pharmacists, share their project and its impact on their daily work …
After just over ten years of experience, we decided to take over a pharmacy in 2010.
Drawing on our professional experience in Switzerland, where we encountered working structures very different from those we knew at the start of our careers, we wanted to offer our patients a radical change: from an outdated structure to a modern one, from confined spaces to open areas, from a small laboratory to a contemporary and streamlined lab, and from a few shelves to multiple themed spaces. A true delight for all our senses.
At the opening, what we observed was indescribable. The reaction of patients-customers, from 20 to 80 years old, was unanimous: surprised eyes, smiling faces and countless compliments. Some took photos, others recorded videos …
We adopted a completely different working structure, making long working days much easier: everything is logically organised on the many shelves (instead of being spread across multiple storage rooms), and within the robot. Music and lighting also play a major role in well-being, for both staff and patients.
The works progressed very quickly. The temporary setup was simple and efficient, and the choices made at the PLUO (ex-Conceptexpo) offices were facilitated by the experience and advice of everyone involved: a friendly and competent team.
The move took place almost exactly on the planned day, and right up to the final hour everyone worked tirelessly. Late into the night, we were finally able to go to sleep with our heads full of unforgettable and incredible memories. The transformation of our pharmacy was complete — just as we had dreamed of for many years — opening up new perspectives in an ever-evolving pharmaceutical world.
Note: We are available for anyone who would like to share this experience…

A circulation designed for discovery
Thanks to a guided circulation, patients can now discover the different areas and services offered by the pharmacy: SAD area, Mother & Baby, hygiene, cosmetics, nature, OTC, advice and product testing counter, confidentiality area and consultation room.
The large display unit placed in front of the counters helps organise circulation while inspiring patients, who are introduced to a wide selection of products.
Clearly identified zones, supporting advice

- ‘Nature’ area and advisory space
- ‘Mother & Baby’ area with a consultation space at the rear

An atmosphere designed to reassure
The building’s structure, with its rather sober and dark industrial style, contrasts harmoniously with a carefully designed layout and lighting, as well as warm furniture — both in the choice of materials and in the shapes used — in light tones.
The counter and service areas, including the confidentiality and consultation spaces, are deliberately treated in a more neutral and refined atmosphere.
The choice of materials and colours reassures and reflects the medical function of the pharmacy.

A layout that makes the most of space and natural light
To fully benefit from natural light and the most qualitative areas of the building, a large part of the patient area was designed within the new extension.
To take advantage of both the brightness provided by the numerous glazed surfaces and the available space for product presentation, we designed a display system that allows light to pass through.

Technology and organisation supporting daily operations
While the pharmacy clearly focuses on patient experience and advice, it also integrates new technologies, such as a dispensing robot and digital screens.
These tools help optimise space, waiting times and patient flow management. OTC products are, moreover, presented exclusively via screens.
The back office — including the robot, laboratories and offices — is located at the rear, in the original building, within the cold zone.

Turning ideas intoexperience with the PLUO team
Creating a pharmacy project with us is first and foremost a meaningful human and collaborative adventure.
Every pharmacy is unique, every pharmacist has their own priorities and vision. Our role is to transform those ideas into a tangible experience: a welcoming and comfortable space where patients want to return, where the team enjoys working every day, and a profitable project that supports the long-term success of the pharmacy.
